Elena Rybakina vs Jessica Pegula Odds & Prediction

10th seed Elena Rybakina will take on the third seed, Jessica Pegula in the semifinal of the Miami Open tomorrow. The two are currently slated to play at 1pm ET.

This will be the first of two semifinal matches that will be played on Thursday. The two other semifinalists will be determined later today.

Rybakina is the slight favorite heading into this semifinal match, as the 23-year old is riding a 12 match win streak.

23-year old Rybakina is on the hunt for the “Sunshine Double,” which is winning back-to-back titles at Indian Wells and the Miami Open in the same year. A couple weeks ago, she captured the title in the desert in a hard fought final against Aryna Sabalenka.

Rybakina has managed to continue her win streak in Miami, and is now two wins away from the title.

In her quarterfinal match against Trevisan, Rybakina came out strong, building a 3-1 lead out the gate. She then went on to win eight straight games to win the match, defeating her opponent 6-3, 6-0, in 69-minutes.

Trevisan only managed 11 winners to 13 unforced errors, while Rybakina finished with 23 winners and 21 unforced errors.

The American is no stranger to the Miami Open. Pegula became the first American to reach back-to-back semifinal appearances here in Miami since Serena Williams did in 2014 and 2015.

The 29-year old finally was able to play her quarterfinal match after it was delayed four hours. The delay definitely took a toll on both players as the start of the match seemed to be a struggle.

Pegula entered her quarterfinal match against Anastasia Potapova with a 3-0 record against her, and having just played her a couple weeks earlier at the Indian Wells. Potapova came out strong and managed to take the first set, putting Pegula in a must win situation, if she wanted to continue in the tournament.

In the second set, Pegula saved two match points, which allowed her to extend the match to the tiebreak. It took over two and a half hours for Pegula to record the 4-6, 6-3, 7(7)-6(2) win, with the match ending after 1 am ET.

This will be the third time Rybakina and Pegula will face each other, but the first time in 2023. Both previous matches happened last year, with Pegula winning both.

With the way Rybakina is playing right now, it’s hard to think that anyone is able to beat her. She’s gone on to defeat the likes of Iga Swiatek, Aryna Sabalenka, and Paula Bodosa during her current winning match streak.

As we’ve seen the quick outdoor hard courts work well for Pegula, but it has also benefitted Rybakina’s serves.

The biggest factor that will go into this match is just how the two players have been playing. Rybakina will be most likely battling some fatigue, as she’s played a lot of tennis this past month, but she’s playing better tennis than Pegula. If she can push through it, she’ll have a spot in the final match.
